Mercedes-Benz India has confirmed that the new B-Class Sports Tourer will be launched in India on 18 September. The B-Class was unveiled at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) in July, and is on display at various locations across the country. However, the promotional models are the B 200 left-hand-drive versions sold in Europe, the car that will be launched here is the B 180 petrol variant.
Initially, the B-Class will be brought to India as CBU (Completely Built Unit); local assembly of the premium hatchback is expected to begin early next year, when the diesel version will as well be rolled out. On the price front, the B-Class will compete with the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3 with sub-Rs 25 lakh tag, but it is not a compact crossover like the other two. Mercedes is keen on launching this car in India mainly to get back in the numbers game. Once the CKD operations commence at the Chakan facility, the prices of the sports tourer are expected to reduce a bit.
