Mercedes stepped into a new sports category with the arrival of the AMG GT last year. The small, V8 powered sports coupe is the second model developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG, after the brilliant SLS AMG which is now discontinued.
Already on sale in select global markets, the AMG GT is expected to arrive in the Indian market soon, as said in a report by Overdrive. The car is likely to go on sale starting March this year with prices ranging between Rs 2 crore and 2.5 crore for the GT and the GT S version respectively.
The standard AMG GT is powered by a brand new 4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine which develops 462bhp of power. The engine sits behind the front-axle delivering power to the rear-wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Mercedes-AMG is also offering a more powerful version in the form of the AMG GTS. The V8 engine in this model pumps out 503bhp of power. Zero to 100 kmph comes up in 3.8 seconds and top speed is rated at 310kmph.
With an expected price range of Rs 2 crore to Rs 2.5 crore, the AMG GT will compete with the high-end versions of the Porsche 911 and the Audi R8.
