Mercedes’ newest sports car – the AMG GT, is now on available for order in the UK with prices starting at £97,195 (Rs 93.84 lakh). The automaker has announced that the GT S and GT S Edition 1 variants of the V8 powered coupe will arrive in the UK in April 2015.
The GT S and GT S Edition 1 versions are powered by Mercedes’ newly developed 4-litre biturbo V8 engine putting out 510bhp of power at 6,250rpm and 650Nm of torque between 1,750 and 4,750rpm. This allows the GT S to accelerate from zero to 100kmph in 3.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of over 310kmph.
The standard AMG GT – set to arrive in the UK in late 2015 – uses the same dry sump V8 unit, albeit in 462bhp guise. The GT produces 600Nm of torque between 1,600 and 5,000rpm, allowing it to accelerate to 100kmph in 4 seconds flat before hitting 300kmph.
Every AMG GT will be comprehensively specified with 19-inch wheels joined by a mechanical limited slip differential, a switchable AMG performance exhaust, COMAND Online infotainment system with an 8.4-inch screen, AMG sports suspension and an adjustable electronic rear wing.
The GT S, on the other hand, gets 20-inch rear wheels, red brake callipers, an electronically-controlled rear differential, AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with three selectable modes and power bump from 462hp to 510hp.
The new AMG GT is the second car entirely engineered by Mercedes’ AMG division, the first being the SLS AMG. When launched, the car will go up against the high-end versions of the Porsche 911 and the upcoming McLaren Sports Series.
