Mercedes-Benz India has launched the A-Class hatchback in India for an introductory price of Rs 21.93 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The car that has been launched here is the A 180 variant and is available with both petrol and diesel engines. The third generation A-Class was launched globally last year and is based on the German automaker MFA (Modular Front Wheel drive Architecture) platform and is the second vehicle in the range after the B-Class tourer.
The A 180 CDI is powered by a four-cylinder 2.2-litre diesel mill that produces 109PS and 250Nm of torque while the A 180 Sport is powered by a four-cylinder 1.6-litre engine that produces 122PS and 200Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission (7G tronic) across both variants. The A 180 CDI has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 20.06kmpl while the A 180 Sport has been pegged at 15.50kmpl.
Standard features across both variants includes eco function CD player with USB, MP3, Bluetooth, power seat with driver’s side seat having a memory function, 40:60 split rear seats, Bi Xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights and a 341 litre boot. The Sport Petrol also has a panoramic sunroof. The list of driver assist and safety features includes seven airbags, ESP with Brake Assist, attention assist; hill start and hold function as well as tyre pressure loss warning system. The car will be imported via the CBU route but will evntually be assembled from CKD kits at the German automaker's plant in Pune by the end of the year.
