Mercedes-Benz has announced that it is shelving plans for a cabriolet based on the CLA and instead will produce an estate version of the compact sedan. It will be called the CLA shooting brake and will have four-wheel drive.
In the past Mercedes had unveiled A-Class hatchback, B-Class minivan, GLA crossover and CLA four-door coupe. Ditching the Cabriolet, this time the executives at the German automaker have decided to go in for something more upscale and one that they believe will offer them higher profits. An auto magazine confirms that out of the five proposed four-wheel drive models based on the MFA platform, only four will actually see the light of day.
The proposed coupe will borrow much from its larger version the CLS Shooting Brake. Engine options will likely be a carryover from the standard model, so expect a variety of four-cylinder petrol and diesel units. Once it is launched it is expected to steal some of the thunder from the GLA Crossover.
So for those of you looking for a stylish wagon that gets its glamour content spot on, the CLA shooting brake will definitely look good in your garage. Sadly however, the reality that there is not much demand for estate cars in India and so it is unlikely that Mercedes-Benz will bring ever the new car here once it is launched.
