Mercedes-Benz has upped its game for the New Year by launching the all-new S-Class recently and it received an overwhelming response. Now, news is that the performance division, AMG, might work on a new car for India and it may be an SUV.
At the recent launch event of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Eberhard Kern, the company’s CEO, spoke to an automotive blog and confirmed this news. Currently, there are three from the AMG range of vehicles on sale in India which includes the E63, G63 and the recently launched SLK55, along with the top of the line SLS. Mercedes, in India, has two SUVs on sale the M-Class and the humongous GL-Class, while there is no confirmation on which model will get the AMG variant, both SUVs are highly desirable. The AMG badge will certainly up their appeal and bolster Merc's performance petrol SUV range in India.
In international markets the GL-Class and the M-Class can be bought with the AMG works and both get the 5.5-litre bi-turbo engine producing an insane 557bhp and an eyeball-popping 760Nm of twisting force. The GL63 and the ML63’s performance figures can put some super cars to shame with both vehicles attaining an electronically limited speed of 250 kmph and doing the sprint to 100 kmph in less than five seconds.
It’s hard to predict which one of these SUVs will get the nod from Mercedes-Benz but one thing is for sure, the pricing would be stratospheric. Also, we believe it might be the GL that might make it to India, let us wait and watch for the next announcement from Mercedes India.
