Mercedes has launched their 14th car for the year, the flagship sports car, the AMG GT S. Priced at Rs 2.40 crore (ex-showroom), the car rivals the Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type in India. Here is a detailed look at the new Mercedes AMG GT S through a detailed photo gallery.
The AMG GT S has a typical sports car form with a long hood and sloping roof line. The looks are reminiscent of the SLS AMG, but this is a much more compact car.
Mercedes has omitted the iconic gullwing doors, previously seen on the 300SL and the SLS AMG. The AMG GT S gets a pair of conventional doors like in most sports cars.
Apart from the compact size, the car also gets a more advanced aero package through its design to offer better handling dynamics. The spoiler at the rear opens and shuts to offer additional downforce.
Under the hood is the 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 producing 503bhp and 650Nm of torque. The numbers don’t sound exciting enough? How about the fact that it can reach 100kmph in 3.8 seconds?
The engine is at the front of the cabin, but far behind the front axle to provide mid-engine dynamics. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch AMG Speedshift transmission.
The engine at the front also liberates space, offering more practicality. The AMG GT S has a 350-litre boot, offering enough space to carry two people's luggage.
The inside of the car is similar to that of the many modern Mercs with circular AC vents and tablet-like screen for infotainment system. Of course, it has more carbon fibre and leather with contrasting stitches for sporty touch.
Mercedes-AMG GT S comes with all the convenience features like climate control, navigation, parking sensors, engine start button as standard.
The two-door coupe will be available in seven colours and will be imported to India as CBU and will be available through all the Mercedes AMG Performance Centres.
