The Mercedes AMG GT-R may have stolen the limelight with its multi-circuit lap record but let us not forget that Mercedes has also brought in a convertible version of the AMG GT and has priced it at Rs 2.19 crore (all India ex-showroom).
Dubbed the AMG GT Roadster, it is exactly the same as the ‘standard’ AMG GT but with the ability to let you experience the wind as well as the warmth of the sun light in your hair. Thanks to a carbon fibre heavy body, it has hardly gained any weight in becoming a convertible and more importantly at speeds of up to 50 kmph the fabric roof can go up or down in 11 seconds.
Its gets all the luxury trimmings of the AMG GT like the infotainment system, climate control and electrically adjustable seats. The convertible nature of the car means that it also gets the Mercedes AirScarf and a fixed mesh wind deflector.
Motivation comes from the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 found in the standard car and here too, it churns out power of 469bhp and does the 0-100kmph just 3.9 seconds. Power goes to the rear wheels via a seven-speed AMG speed shift transmission.
In this price range, the AMG GT Roadster competes against the Ferrari California and Porsche Turbo S Cabriolet in the India market. It is Rs 20 lakh cheaper than the standard AMG GT S and is the most affordable AMG GT model in India.
