The Mercedes-AMG GT R has set a new lap record in India ahead of its launch. It is now the fastest production car around the Buddh International Circuit (BIC).Â
Mercedes-Benz India recently put the GT R to test at the famed circuit under the observation of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). The supercar managed to lap the track in 02:09:853 with AMG driver Christian Hohenadel behind the wheel. The earlier record was also held by Mercedes with the SLS AMG setting the lap in 02:14:521.
The Mercedes-Benz GT R is the production version of the brand's Nürburgring 24-hour race-winning GT3. Undoubtedly, the GT-R has the racing DNA to achieve such a landmark. It's also called as the 'Beast of the Green Hell' for being the fastest rear-wheel-drive around the Nurburgring circuit (Green Hell).
Mercedes-AMG has powered the GT R by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 mill. This unit churns out a humongous 585bhp of power and 700Nm of torque. This power is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It can sprint from 0-100kmph in just 3.6secs. We are very excited as Mercedes-Benz will launch this car in India on 21 August. Stay tuned.
