It’s official! Mercedes-AMG has confirmed the name and the reveal date of the all-new four-door member of the AMG GT family. The four-door GT will be called AMG Coupe (Why? Because Mercedes-AMG can!). It will celebrate its global premiere at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in March.
The four-door GT was teased in the camo body being tested “all around the world.” The test mule of the AMG GT sibling has been spotted several times undergoing test on multiple occasions already. Based on the AMG GT Concept showcased last year, the AMG GT Coupe is AMG’s take on the Porsche Panamera. It will carry forward the AMG GT styling with some tweaks inspired by the new Mercedes design language seen on the CLS- and A-Class. The Panamerican grille will be flanked by stylish LED headlights. Whereas the extended wheelbase for the rear cabin will lend the car striking proportions. The teased car is also wearing a large rear wing to make its performance intentions clear.
In the Mercedes-AMG scheme of things, the AMG GT Coupe will fill in the void created by the absence of the CLS63 AMG. So apart from being genuinely sporty, the GT Coupe will also be luxurious. It will pack in all the comfort the Three-Pointed sedans have on offer but with a performance to put supercars to shame. Under the long bonnet will supposedly be the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with 605bhp and a nine-speed transmission with 4Matic drive. However, a range-topping hybrid powerplant with more than 800bhp is also on the cards.
Post its debut at the Geneva stage, the AMG GT Coupe will go on sale later this year. We expect it to make its way to India as well. The Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe will basically be a high-performance car with a hint of practicality.
