Mercedes originally previewed the AMG GT concept that got all the bystanders’ attention at the Geneva Motor Show. This four door concept, since then, has taken the form of functional prototypes currently plying in Europe.
The four-door GT is yet to receive a name but it is likely to be powered by the familiar 4-litre twin turbo V8 from the AMG GT coupe. That said, the GT concept at Geneva showcased a hybrid powertrain inspired by Mercedes-AMG Formula One car. This hybrid powertrain is called EQ Power+ and will adjoin the V8 with an electric motor mounted at the back and pushing out 800bhp.
The AMG GT sedan will join the existing AMG GT family including the GT S, GTR and GT C. It will compete against the likes of Porsche Panamera and BMW 6-Series GranCoupe. We expect it to be revealed in production form sometime next year following the launch of the next-gen A-Class and CLS.
