AMG has announced that it will discontinue the RWD spec E63 super sedan due to low demand. From 2017, it will only produce the 4MATIC AWD variant of the next generation of the German automaker’s mid-size luxury car.
While the move has made AMG purists unhappy, it looks like the company will bow in favour those who pay for the cars. This next generation E63, which is expected to be based on latest W213 model, will get a completely new AWD system and a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that is expected to produce 571bhp in standard form and in S guise 612bhp. It will have a top speed of 250kmph and a 0-100kmph time of 3.5 seconds.
As is the case with every AMG E-Class, it is expected to be subtle in terms of looks but will pack a monster punch underneath. This permanent AWD option means Mercedes-Benz will take a direct fight to Audi’s S and RS range.
