Most of us are familiar with the Audi A8L, the sedan has feel-good interiors which creates the perfect ambience for a ride. Not to mention how big a status symbol it is. Now, how about making your ride stylish as well as secure? No, we are not talking about the standard safety features that a car comes with. We are thinking more on the lines of the all-new, armour-plated version of its A8 full-size luxury sedan.
Called the Audi A8L Security, it comes with a long-wheelbase, and is available with the 435bhp, twin-turbo 4.0-litre V-8 or the naturally aspirated, 500bhp, 6.3-litre W-12. As mentioned earlier, this car does not compromise on the style quotient, as if it were saying, ‘if you want to live dangerously why not do it in an Audi and with style?’
The Audi Security takes some cues from the A8′s changes for 2015: namely, new headlights, a more elegant grille, and a restyled rear end. Coming to the security part, it has been hand-fitted with heat-formed armour steel, aramide fabric, and multi-laminated glass armour. The vehicle floor is armour plated, too, to protect against explosive devices. Oh and the window panes are sealed shut.
Audi has patented an emergency-exit system, which allows the doors to be detached fully. There’s also an emergency fresh air system that creates overpressure in the vehicle, so that toxic gases cannot enter. The car consistently meets VR7 ballistic weapons security standards, and it is resistant to explosives according to ERV 2010 guidelines. In case you have more money to spare you can order for a special battery and even have tank protection.
Transforming an A8L into an A8L Security takes a good measure of time but those interested in purchasing a tank-proof A8 of their own will have to wait for another few months. Though we can see this debuting in the US and may even find takers in the Middle East, Indians would probably have to find their own way of owning one.
