One-off cars built for customers aren't unheard of - after all, Ferrari is famous for creating unique supercars for loyal fans of the brand. Most recently a certain Eric Clapton got his personalised Ferrari built and delivered. McLaren hasn't always been known for these one-off creations, but it now seems that it is willing to take the fight to Ferrari on this front as well, and the first of its one-off creations is the X-1.
We're sure the X-1 name was chosen carefully; minus the hyphen, it is the name of one of Cray's most powerful machines, and it also happens to be the first aircraft to fly beyond the speed of sound. The McLaren X-1 also looks like it can go supersonic, but we don't agree with the company when they state that it is a timeless design. It looks like it has influences from the Audi R8, old Cadillacs and the Batmobile.
The mechanicals are all MP4-12C, which is quick enough for anyone, but the looks are something that yo'll either love for their uniqueness or dislike for their lack of coherence. Either way, it will get people talking, which is mostly the point of a one-off vehicle. There is no price announced for the X-1, but then again, can you put a price on exclusivity?
