Shortly after announcing the name and divulging key details of its upcoming sports car, McLaren has officially released the first teaser image showing the front-end of this new model. Previously referred to only by its internal codename ‘P13’, the vehicle will be known as the McLaren Sports Series.
The Sports Series will join the existing McLaren range and will be positioned below the 650S, bringing the company’s famed credentials to the sports car segment for the first time.
Like the 650S and the flagship P1, the Sports Series will feature a carbon fibre chassis and a mid-mounted V8 engine. The firepower will be a detuned version of the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine that powers the 650S. Inevitably, the Sports Series will compete with the most popular sports car of all time – the Porsche 911.
McLaren has revealed that the Sports Series will be launched in the second quarter of 2015. When launched, the car will be sold alongside the 650S, 650S Spider and the limited-run P1 hyper car.
