Following the global reveal of the hardcore P1 GTR and the striking 675LT at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show earlier this week, McLaren has now given the clearest view of its new offering – the Sports Series, ahead of its debut at the New York Auto Show next month.
Previously referred to only by its internal codename ‘P13’, the Sports Series will join the existing McLaren range and will be positioned below the 650S, bringing the company’s famed credentials to the sports car segment for the first time.
Like the 650S and the flagship P1, the Sports Series will feature a carbon fibre chassis and a mid-mounted V8 engine. The engine will be a detuned version of the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 unit that powers the 650S.
With the Sports Series, McLaren will be looking to grab hold of a significant chunk of the highly competitive sports car segment currently ruled by the Porsche 911.
