As McLaren continues to gain presence in many global markets, the British sportscar maker has announced the launch of its first regionally tailored model aimed at the Asian market. Based on the existing 650S, this new model is called the 625C and the latter has been conceived in response to customer demand in the Asian region.
McLaren says that the 625C shares the visual drama of the 650S, but with an increased focus on everyday usability and comfort. The brand has made revisions to the ProActive Chassis Control and the suspension hardware for better ride comfort and overall refinement.
The term 625C refers to the power output of the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 powerplant – 625PS (616bhp). The ‘C’ in the 625C stands for ‘Club’, highlighting a more practical side of the regular 650S. However, this new model enjoys a number of technical upgrades already debuted on the 650S. Despite being a slightly softened down version of the 650S, the Asia-specific 625C is no slouch. It is capable of accelerating from zero to 100 kmph in just 3.1 seconds, while 200kmph is reached in 8.8 seconds. Despite the lower power output, the top speed mirrors that of the 650S, at 333kmph.
McLaren has revealed that the new 625C will initially be launched in Hong Kong, with Coupe and Spider bodystyles both immediately available. Launch dates in a few other markets across the Asia Pacific region will be announced in the coming months. Though Asian markets have been among the top drawers for McLaren over the past two years, it is still unknown whether the sportscar maker will also allot a few units of this tailor-made model for the Indian market.
