Following the record lap time at the Goodwood track, few days earlier, the McLaren P1 LM heads to Nordschleife Nurburgring, lapping the Green Hell in a record braking 6:43.22seconds. The road-going version of the track-focused P1 GTR, the P1 LM beats the previous record holder, Lamborghini Huracan Performante by a whole 9seconds. The Huracan last set a record time of 6.52.01seconds a few months ago.
Behind the wheel was 1999 Indianapolis 500 winner Kenny Brack who was also responsible for the record time at the Goodwood track. The road-going modification was carried out by Hampshire-based specialist Lanzante Motorsports. The Lanzante name is famous for their work on the F1 GTR which won laurels back in 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Now talking about the machine, the P1 LM is the rarest and quickest model to be built with only five units on the road right now. The 4.0-litre biturbo V8 is breathing out an excess of 986bhp. Excess because those are the P1 GTR figures. However, Lanzante asserts that the engine hardware is souped-up to produce additional boost with hybrid power while there are extensive weight shaving measures as well shaving off 60kgs over the P1 GTR. The car ran on custom-made Pirelli Trofeo tires specifically designed for the P1 LM. Functional aerodynamics was also scrounged from the track-focused GTR.
The P1 LM comes with air-conditioning as standard fitment, across all the five cars built to brag its road-going credentials (all five P1 LM are sold out though). More importantly, the car was driven back to its home country after the record run at the German race track. The P1 LM also smothers the record timing of Neo EP9 electric car by two seconds, which silently did the lap time of 6.45.9seconds.With the Nurburgring timings being smashed every other day, want to reckon which car will be thenext to do it in coming days?
