Truly distinctive in every sense, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has created a unique MSO R Coupé and Spider for one connoisseur. The cars have been built and designed to suit personal taste as the customer closely works with the MSO to agree on the direction, scope and specification of a project. Every inch of the cars, right from its exhaust note, and design element to its interior detailing is one of a kind.
Revealing the beast in its true form, the Coupe and the Spider gets the striking yet understated liquid silver colour with a carbon fibre central stripe. The Coupe and the Spider gets the satin and gloss finish, respectively. The front bumper, bonnet, louvered fenders, roof scoop and rear deck are all MSO Visual Carbon Fibre (VCF) components, as are the side mirror arms and casings and wiper scuttle. Pinstriping in delta red features on the front splitter and side blades, while the splitter, side skirts, sill panels, rocker panels and plenum cover carry MSO R branding. The wheels of both cars are the same five-spoke design, finished in satin black on the Coupe and gloss black on the Spider.
As expected from a bespoke model, the interior in both the cars arguably even more distinctive than its exterior. Both cabins feature Alcantara trim material throughout. Primarily in black with red stitching, the theme is reversed for the seats, which are red with black stitching and feature an MSO R logo embroidered in black on the headrest. The steering wheel has a carbon fibre upper and lower, with black Alcantara grips and a delta red centring stripe. Switches are in gloss black and vent mechanisms are satin black, with bezels in carbon fibre. Moreover, both the cars get MSO R-branded key, bespoke IRIS screen and instrument cluster displays and gear-shift lights. To ensure that the cars shout out their uniqueness quotient, they get dedicated plaque which identifies them as McLarens designed to an MSO Personal Commission.
Mechanically, MSO Personal Commission has blueprinted the engines of both the cars and their heads and exhaust ports have been hand-polished. The detailing has helped the M838TL twin-turbocharged McLaren V8 engine generate a maximum power 679bhp and 700Nm of torque. The exhaust system, which has a ‘crossover’ muffler to increase pipe length and optimise gas flow, features titanium end pipes.
Bespoke cars have always been at its best and have always ended up in the right hands of that lucky connoisseur. As for auto enthusiasts, such models are a subject of admiration.
