British sportscar maker McLaren has just announced that it will make a track-only version of its flagship model – the P1. Called P1 GTR, this new limited-run model will go into production when the 375th and final example of the standard P1 has been made. The brand has even revealed that the P1 GTR will be the most powerful McLaren built till date.
With no need to comply with endless number of road regulations, McLaren says that the P1 GTR will be designed and developed solely for optimum performance on the track. This will see even improved levels of performance, grip, aerodynamics and downforce than the road-going version of the P1.
The P1 GTR will use the same twin turbocharged V8 engine that powers the standard P1. The former, however, will feature a tweaked version of the engine with around 1000bhp of power. The vehicle, expectedly, will make use of race-bred slick tyres, a widened track and more aggressive and distinctive styling designed for improved aerodynamic efficiency.
McLaren has revealed that the P1 GTR will be sold only to existing P1 owners, with each example carrying a price tag of £1.98 million pounds. The price will also include a tailored performance driving programme for each customer to build driver capability. Like the P1, the P1 GTR will be made in extremely limited numbers. This means there is a very good chance you may never see one on the road.
