A Spider version of the McLaren675LT has been spotted on test in Europe. The pictures reveal that the car will get a folding hardtop similar to what that British automaker offers with its other models.
The 675LT was shown at this year’s Geneva Motor Show and is a descendant of the original 1997 F1 GT ‘Longtail’. But unlike the original car which was a full 25 inches longer than the standard model, this car is just 1.5-inches longer and gets its extra length from a new front splitter and active rear spoiler.
This Spider version is expected to be exactly the same but will gain an additional few kilos over the standard car’s 1320kgs to compensate for the open-top nature of the vehicle. It will continue to be powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 which produces 675bhp and 699Nm of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch automatic.
A debut at next year’s Geneva Motor Show is expected for this car though it seems quite probable that most of the models will be sold out before the car is even unveiled . The Spider, when launched will compete with the Ferrari 488GTB Spider which was also unveiled this year.
