The McLaren 570S GT4 has made its maiden public appearance in China. The track car made its maiden public appearance during the first race of the 2017 China GT championship at the Beijing Goldenport Park circuit.
The McLaren 570S GT4 is a track-focussed racing spec car of the company’s ‘entry-level’ sports car, the 570S. It is built around a carbon fibre chassis like the Sports Series model. Even the bodywork makes extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminium to keep it light. The downforce has been improved with the addition of a new aluminium wing at the back, bonnet nostrils and a front splitter. It also gets a wider track which accommodates the lightweight cast magnesium alloy wheels shod with slick Pirelli racing tyres. At the heart of the McLaren 570S GT4 is the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
McLaren spent the last few months running the 570S GT4 through a development test bed in the British GT championship. Now, the car is eligible for all GT4 homologated championships from the 2017 season. When it comes to the competition, the McLaren 570S GT4 will rub shoulders with the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
