McLaren has officially revealed that the first model to be launched in its Sports Series family will be called the 570S Coupe. This V8-powered two seater will show it’s aerodynamically optimised form for the first time in less than a week when it debuts at the 2015 New York Auto Show.
With the introduction of the first Sports Series derivative, the 570S Coupe, McLaren will be displaying its three tier model strategy together in New York for the first time. Every Sports Series model will share its DNA with the Super Series (650S, 675 LT and Asia-specific 625C) and Ultimate Series (P1 and P1 GTR) that sit above it.
Like the 650S and the flagship P1, the Sports Series will feature a carbon fibre chassis and a mid-mounted V8 engine. The engine will be a detuned version of the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 unit that powers the 650S. In line with the naming convention begun with the 650S, the number 570 refers to the power output of this first Sports Series model: 570PS, which equates to 562hp.
Further details on the 570S Coupe will be revealed next week ahead of the global reveal which will take place in New York. With the 570S Coupe, McLaren will be looking to grab hold of a significant chunk of the highly competitive sports car segment currently ruled by the Porsche 911.
