McLaren has taken the wraps off the new 570GT. Deemed as the most usable McLaren till date, the new car based on the 567S, has glass hatch at the rear and additional luggage compartments.
The McLaren 570GT ditches the coupe’s airflow-smoothing, flying buttresses for the glass hatch for practicality. This ‘touring deck’ as the rear opens to the side and that depends upon whether it is right-hand drive or left-hand drive. It doesn’t have lot of space at 220litres, but coupled with 150litres space under the hood, it has space comparable with the sub-four metre hatchbacks in India. Continuing to work on the usability, even the suspension has been retuned with softer springs for better ride.
But all of this hasn’t had much effect on the overall performance. The car uses the same 3.8-litre V8 producing 562bhp and 600Nm, with 0 to 100kmph down by just two-tenth of a second to 3.4 seconds. To get extra downforce, to compensate for the changes at the back, the GT gets a large spoiler. Also there are heavier iron discs instead of carbon-ceramic rotors, to stop the car that weight 37 kilograms more.
The deliveries of the new McLaren 570GT will start in June and the car carries a price tag of just under USD 2,00,000 (Rs 1.36 crore). McLaren has still not officially arrived in India and the till that time, the only option of getting your hands on one of these is going to be importing it through a dealer.
