General Motors India has awarded McCann Erickson the complete creative and digital accounts of all its Chevrolet brands in India, after a multi-agency pitch. This is the first time that a single agency would be responsible for all the brands in GM India’s portfolio including, Chevrolet Spark, Beat, Aveo U-VA, Aveo, Cruze, Optra, Tavera, and Captiva.
Prior to this, GM India was working with three agencies to handle the creative and digital accounts of the company. The decision to appoint McCann Erickson was taken to consolidate the entire creative and digital business under one agency which has the capability and band-width to support the growing business of Chevrolet in India.
Making the announcement, Mr. Karl Slym, President and Managing Director, GM India said, “Chevrolet is now not only one of the fastest growing vehicle nameplates in India but also the most sought after brands worldwide. Going forward, we plan to launch several new products and services under the Chevrolet brand for India and the global audience, relevant to the respective markets and customer preferences. With the creative and digital businesses under one umbrella, it will help further consolidate and strengthen the brand, and help derive synergies from a global perspective.”
McCann will provide a dedicated servicing and strategy team to drive GM India’s creative and digital businesses on existing products as well as on forthcoming launches. It had worked with General Motors India earlier and is among the global agencies that handle the Chevrolet brand.
“Chevrolet vehicles are sold in more than 140 countries across the globe with 4.26 million sales in 2010 which means one Chevrolet gets sold in every 7.4 seconds,” said Susan Docherty, vice president GM International Operations sales, marketing and aftersales. “India is one of Chevrolet’s top ten sales markets along with other emerging markets like Brazil, China, Uzbekistan, Mexico and Russia. We expect these emerging markets to account for 55% of Chevrolet’s global sales by 2012,” said Docherty.
