Mazda has resurrected its legendary rotary engine technology with the RX-VISION sports car concept at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. The brand says this new concept represents ‘a vision of the future that Mazda hopes to one day make into reality’.
The RX-VISION is a front-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car with the brand’s KODO design-based proportions and powered by the SKYACTIV-R rotary engine. Rotary engines feature a unique construction, generating power through the rotational motion of a triangular rotor.
While mass production has been stopped long back, Mazda says they have never stopped R&D towards the rotary engine. As a result, the next rotary engine has been named SKYACTIV-R and could find its way into Mazda’s future sports car.
The RX-VISION previews a future sports car model from Mazda that could bring back the brand’s legendary rotary engine technology previously seen in popular models like the RX-7 and the RX-8.
