Mazda is selling the last of its rotary engines as we know them in the RX-8 in the form of the RX-8 Spirit R. The last of the Wankels was limited to just 1000 units, but thanks to popular demand, the Japanese manufacturer has doubled the production run by another 1000 units.
The Spirit R aims to make the RX-8 go out with a bang. Kit includes larger brakes with red callipers, piano-black transmission tunnel trim, Recaro bucket seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an enhanced traction control system. Both automatic and manual options have been offered, but the enthusiast customer base have opted for the manual over the automatic - partly because it gets larger 19-inch rims, lower profile tyres, stiffer suspension, alloy pedals and additional aerodynamic exterior bits over the automatic. If you're a fan of the high-revving rotary engine, here's your last chance to get one new.
