Maserati has started writing a new chapter in its Indian story, by re-entering the market with a five-model line-up. With the inauguration of its first dealership in Mumbai scheduled in the next few months, the Italian manufacturer will soon start accepting bookings of its models, which start at a whopping Rs 1.1 crore.
This isn’t Maserati’s first stint in India as the company had previously launched its range here, back in 2011. However the company’s venture with Mumbai-based Shreyans Group went south due to some problems and the agreement was eventually terminated in 2013. This time around, Maserati has set up an independent team to deal with the operations in India, which will report directly to the company’s regional office in Dubai. Despite being a part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Maserati’s India operations will not be associated with Fiat’s Indian division.
Maserati will be offering five models in the Indian market – the Ghibli, Quattroporte Diesel, GranTurismo, GranCabrio and the Quattroporte GTS. The Ghibli diesel and the Quattroporte diesel are powered by a 275bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, while the Quattroporte GTS gets an almighty 530bhp 3.8-litre twin turbocharged V8 petrol engine. The GranTurismo and the GranCabrio two-door sportscars come with a 405bhp V8 petrol engine. The dealership in Mumbai will be operated by Ahmedabad-based group, Planet Petal, and will be followed by two new dealerships in Bengaluru and Delhi.
Prices of Maserati range (ex-showroom, Delhi):
Maserati Ghibli Diesel: Rs 1.10 crore
Maserati Quattroporte Diesel: Rs 1.50 crore
Maserati GranTurismo: Rs 1.80 crore
Maserati GranCabrio: Rs 2.0 crore
