Maruti's Manesar plant may just resume operations by next week, according to a company executive. The company's board will probably meet today to finalise the reopening date for the plant. Late August is expected to be a realistic target for reopening the plant.
As of right now 114 workers have been arrested and some others are absconding for fear of being arrested too, which raises the question of whether there will be enough workforce to resume all operations. The assembly lines are for the most part automated, so those can resume functioning first.
With long waiting periods for the diesel Dzire and Swift, Maruti can't ignore its customers for much longer thanks to similar products available from the competition.
