Maruti Suzuki chairman RC Bhargava has gone on record saying that the Manesar plant will remain shut as long as the police is conducting its probe into the incident. The company hopes that the investigation will conclude swiftly, as the company is losing Rs 70 crore per day. The total loss so far is around Rs 270 crore and counting.
The dead employee has been identified as HR general manager Awanish Kumar Dev, and a fair number of senior managers remain in hospital with fractures on their arms or legs. The company has stated that it will conduct its own probe in parallel with the police probe, but will assist the police investigation in any way possible as well.
The plant rolls out 1600 units of the Swift, Dzire, SX4 and A-Star at the Manesar plant. What this means to the common man is increased waiting periods for these models, especially the Swift and Dzire, that already have long waiting periods.
