Maruti plans to produce the compact sedan, Swift Dzire, at its Gurgaon facility in addition to output from the Manesar plant to clear 65,000 bookings that have pending due to trouble at the Manesar plant. The Dzire was originally produced at the Gurgaon plant, but the new model was moved to Manesar facility, since it shares lot more components with the Swift.
MSI Chief Operating Office (Production) M M Singh said that at present both the plants are producing 250 units of the Dzire every day. The Dzire along with the Swift are two of the top selling models of the small car market leader, which were most severely impacted due to the labour riots at the Manesar facility on July 18. Despite production resuming on August 21, the plant has not been able to churn out enough vehicles to meet the demand and the waiting period continues to be really high.
This move will hopefully reduce the waiting period and provide some breather till the Manesar facility starts running at optimum. The company is likely to return to full employee strength by the end of the month, once recruitment process is completed.
