It was at the Auto Expo at the start of this year when Maruti Suzuki showcased a modified version of the WagonR and christened it as the Xrest edition. Amongst many other such modified cars from the manufacturer, it wasn't announced which of the concepts would actually make it to the production line. However, the Xrest has been spotted without any camouflage hinting that it might be launched soon.
The Xrest edition with cosmetic changes boasts of smoked headlamps, a redesigned radiator grille and a silver lip for the front bumper. The most evident change at the side is the black plastic cladding and roof rails that were also seen on the version at the Expo. However, the one here doesn't look much appealing as the body cladding doesn't extend till the rear bumper. At the rear, smoked tail lamps and a black plastic garnish above the registration plate can be seen.
The car also gets some mild changes in the interior. There are new seat covers and a new steering wheel cover as well. Though the company has kept the major components same, the mild revisions include a black and beige colour theme. The company might throw in few new features like a Bluetooth compatible 2-DIN stereo, reverse parking sensors with digital display, remote central locking, door sills and carpet floor mats.
The WagonR Krest is expected to only get cosmetic changes and will still continue to employ the 1.0 litre three cylinder petrol engine. This engine produces 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
Though not a comprehensive makeover, the WagonR Xrest does give a feel of a compact crossover due to the body cladding. Consumers on a budget who can't afford the VW Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross and the latest Avventura, but do like the looks of the crossover will opt for this. The WagonR is one of the top-selling models from the manufacturer's line-up known for offering good cabin space and fuel efficiency. With the addition of the new variant it will give prospective buyers another model to choose from.
