Maruti Suzuki has gone on a spree of launching new products for the Indian market. While they launched the Ciaz hybrid today, they are also working on introducing a compact SUV, whose test mule was spotted testing recently.
The heavily camouflaged test mule does not reveal many details but does give us a clue about its dimensions. This new vehicle will be the company’s first compact SUV/crossover and will be a sub four-metre vehicle. It will be based on the XA-Alpha concept unveiled earlier, so we can expect it to be bulked up and sport an aggressive fascia. The car will borrow design cues from the Vitara SUV and get exterior and interior styling elements similar to Suzuki's design language.
We can expect the petrol versions of the compact SUV to be powered either by the 1.2-litre K-Series mill and the 1.4-litre K-Series engine. The diesel variant might be powered by the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel. On the transmission front, a five-speed manual will be offered as standard, while a four-speed automatic might also be offered.
Maruti Suzuki is preparing itself for new launches and wants to expand their Indian portfolio. The compact SUV segment has expanded and the annual market size of this segment in India is only expected to grow exponentially. Maruti Suzuki would also want to venture into this segment and provide a product that would cater to the needs of the prospective buyers. Apart from this compact SUV, Maruti Suzuki will also bring in the Baleno hatchback soon.
