Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming premium hatchback, the YRA, has been spotted testing in Delhi, while being benchmarked against the Hyundai Elite i20.
Though the test mule was heavily camouflaged, previous spy shots of the YRA have shown that the hatchback will get a chrome lined grille with a honeycomb design in between. The front of the car bears a striking resemblance to the Swift, though the YRA will be significantly bigger than the Swift.
The petrol variants of the YRA will be available with either a 1.2-litre or a 1.4-litre K-series petrol engine, while the diesel variants will be offered with the 1.3-litre MultiJet unit. Power will be sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, though we can also expect Maruti Suzuki to offer the AMT gearbox in some variants.
Though Maruti Suzuki hasn’t divulged any details about the car, we expect the Delhi-based manufacturer to launch the YRA, with a production-suited moniker, by the end of this year. It will rival other premium hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20, Fiat Punto Evo and the upcoming Honda Jazz.
