A batch of pictures of a completely undisguised Maruti Suzuki YRA/ik2 undergoing testinghas been posted on the internet. The black test mule didn’t sport any camouflage or even a license plate, which hints that the car might have been photographed within the Maruti Suzuki’s facilitynear Delhi.
The influence of Suzuki’s European design house is clearly visible in the YRA’s overall aesthetics. The test mule previews the YRA’s chrome lined V-shaped front grille and the honeycomb design within the grille. The sweptback headlamps draw inspiration from the Suzuki iK-2 Concept and integrate projector units. The rear gets a flowing design with a steeply raked windscreen, a bootlid spoiler and LED tail lamps.
The petrol variants of the YRA will be available with either a 1.2-litre or a 1.4-litre K-series petrol engine, while the diesel variants will be offered with the 1.3-litre MultiJet unit. Power will be sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, though we can also expect Maruti Suzuki to offer the AMT gearbox in some variants.
The production-ready version of the YRA is expected to be launched in Indiaby the end of this year. It will rival other premium hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20, Fiat Punto Evo and the upcoming Honda Jazz.
