The Maruti Suzuki YRA hatchback has been spotted testing for the first time in India. It is expected to be the Indo-Japanese automaker's most offering for 2015 and will let it bring the fight to vehicles like the Volkswagen Golf, Honda jazz and the Renault Megane.
We already know what the car looks like without its camouflage as well as some of the basic interior setup. However, given how Suzuki seems to work when it comes to part sharing, we believe that this car will carry a lot of common bits from other Suzuki's currently on sale. This trend is expected to be carried over to the engine line up which is expected to include the 1.4-litre Kseries petrol engine, 1.6-litre K-Series petrol engine as well as the 1.6-litre and 1.3-litre diesel units used by Suzuki in various cars, though our market will be more familiar with the latter.
What this car is expected to sell on is space which by the look of things, it seems to have a lot of!. It is expected to be around 4.3-meters long making it around 190mm shorter than the Ciaz and almost the same size as the European spec SX4 hatchback. The extended length is expected to show in boot space as well as cabin space.
This vehicle will be the second premium hatchback from the Japanese automaker and will slot in below another more premium car which is expected to revive the Baleno moniker. However, this car has been spotted testing just once and we are still unclear about its details.
Given that Maruti Suzuki is a clear market leader in India, it seems that any vehicle they introduce generally opens the door for other manufacturers to bring similar vehicles to India.
