Earlier in October we had reported that the Maruti Suzuki YL1 had spied in Gurgaon. Now, a reader of Motorbash has sent in pictures of the camouflaged car that was spotted near the Rao Tula Ram flyover in Delhi.
The design of the new car is based on the Suzuki Authentics concept that debuted at the Shanghai Motor show in April. The YL1 is expected to be a successor to Maruti’s popular executive sedan-the SX4. The SX4 is ageing and has lost out in comparison to the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and others. The YL1 is expected to breathe fresh life into the sales books of Maruti.
On the exterior, the car seems bigger than the outgoing car and it will sport a new aggressive front grille design. The car will have premium interiors with better features including rear AC vents, keyless entry, push button-start and leather seats.
With regards to the engine, it has been speculated that the new SX4 may get the 1.4-litre K-series petrol motor and the 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet diesel engine. A five-speed manual gearbox will be standard. Rumours are also abound that Maruti may use one of the new diesel engines that it is developing.
The car is expected to be showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo and will have to work hard to wrest market from the all-new Honda City which is releasing soon.
