Maruti Suzuki is working on a new executive sedan to replace the aging SX4 under the codename YL1. We have already seen the sketches and also interiors of the new car and now the images of a test mule plying on public roads have leaked on the webosphere.
Most of the car is covered in camouflage, but the aggressive front fascia is visible in the images. The design of the new car is based on the Suzuki Authetics concept that debuted at Shanghai Motor show in April. The images show that the carmaker has started testing the car on public roads and we can expect it to make an official debut at the 2014 Auto Expo.
The YL1 will replace the SX4 in the C-Segment to compete with sedans like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Renault Scala and others. The car will have premium interiors with better features including rear AC vents, keyless entry, push button-start and leather seats. The diesel version of the sedan will continue to derive power from the 1.3-litre 90bhp multijet diesel engine, while the petrol variants will use 1.4-litre K-Series mill from the Ertiga. The new car is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of 2014, after the Auto Expo debut.
