Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming compact SUV, internally called YBA, has been spotted testing in India. Expected to be called Vitara Brezza, this sub-four-metre crossover will be positioned below the S-Cross in the lucrative compact SUV segment.
The heavily disguised test mule lets out very few details about the car, though the influences of the Suzuki iV-4 concept in the YBA’s design are clearly visible. The rear of the car gets a rounded design with a tall roofline, which ends with a spoiler. Previous spy shots have shown that the front of the YBA will get a wide chrome grille and Vitara-styled headlamps, which integrate LED DRLs. As the YBA is a sub-four metre product, it will fall under a lower tax bracket. This should help Maruti Suzuki offer the SUV with a competitive pricing, just like the Ford EcoSport.
The YBA will be powered by the tried and tested 1.4-litre K-Series K14B petrol mill and the 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine. Transmission options are expected to include an automatic gearbox too, along with the standard five-speed manual unit.
We can expect Maruti Suzuki to debut the YBA with a different production moniker at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. While the EcoSport will be the Vitara Brezza’s main rival, it will also compete with other crossovers like the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the upcoming Hyundai Creta.
