We have already seen early test mules of the Maruti Suzuki YBA and have also had a brief look at its interior design. Now though, the much-awaited compact SUV has been spotted in production-spec. Caught on camera while undergoing testing in Rajasthan, this new model (codenamed YBA) is the production-ready version of the XA-Alpha SUV which was unveiled at the Auto Expo back in 2012.
Looking at the overall upright stance and the aggressively designed front end, the YBA looks the business as a compact SUV. The generous ride height and the massive wheel wells further complement the tough appearance of the YBA.
Inside, Maruti has taken quite a few bits and pieces from its existing range. Familiar bits like the steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system as well as the climate control system have been taken off the Baleno and the S-Cross. Even the dashboard has the same silver and black combination while the fabric seats are grey with black insets.
Parts sharing will continue under the hood as well wherein the YBA will feature the proven 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine and the 1.3-litre DDiS turbo diesel engine. While a 5-speed manual gearbox will be available as standard, the petrol-powered YBA could also get the option of a CVT. Maruti is currently offering the CVT in the Baleno.
The YBA is likely to make a grand debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in February next year. When launched, it will compete with the Ford EcoSport and the Mahindra TUV300.
