Maruti Suzuki has added another feather to its cap with the WagonR emerging as the third vehicle by the company to reach the 2-million sales mark. The other two successful models are the Alto and the discontinued Maruti 800. Affordable pricing, impressive fuel efficiency and low cost maintenance have been the key factors behind its success.
Reports indicate that back in 2005, the first-time buyers of the WagonR stood at 35 per cent and by 2016-17, the numbers have increased to 46-47 per cent. Although the WagonR sales had slowed down a bit in rural and semi-rural markets, sales for the Alto and WagonR increased by 28 percent from April to August 2017 when compared to the same period in 2016. The current generation of WagonR gets variant specific optional features like dual airbags, ABS, CNG and Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR has also been quite popular in the commercial vehicle segment, where it comprises of about 5 per cent of the total sales. The vehicle is powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine that generates 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. The vehicle is also available with a CNG option which generates 58bhp of power and 77Nm of torque. The India’s largest car manufacturer might also introduce a new gen model sometime by 2018-19. Maruti Suzuki WagonR is priced between Rs 4.10 lakhs to Rs 5.31 lakhs.
