Maruti Suzuki might launch the AMT version of the WagonR in India this month. It might demand a price of Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000 more than the standard hatchback, giving a tough fight to the Tata Bolt that comes equipped with the AMT gearbox.
There will be no cosmetic changes to the WagonR, but the only thing new to the vehicle will be the addition of the AMT gearbox. The WagonR is powered by a 998cc three-cylinder K-Series mill that produces 67.04bhp of power and 90Nm of torque. At present, this mill comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and this will be accompanied by another variant that will feature the AMT gearbox.
The Magneti Marelli five-speed automated manual transmission has gathered a sizeable number of patrons here. In fact, Maruti Suzuki was quick to notice this change with their first AMT-equipped vehicle - Celerio and soon after they released the refreshed Alto K10 with the AMT gearbox. The results have been there for all to see.
Since we have been accustomed to seeing spyshots of the upcoming car, we expect it to be launched this festive season. Already, the WagonR hatchback enjoys great popularity in the Indian market due to its tallboy design and decent cabin space, add to that the AMT and Maruti will have another win.
