The Vitara Brezza from Maruti Suzuki has been dominating the utility vehicle segment since its launch in the country. Reports indicate that Maruti has already received over two lakh bookings and the automaker has already sold over 90,000 units as of January 31, 2017. By the end of this month, it is likely that the numbers might soar to over two lakh bookings. Surging demand for the vehicle has now pushed the waiting period close to seven months.
Maruti Suzuki’s existing facility has been operating at its full capacity. However, growing demand for the Baleno as well as Vitara Brezza has created backlogs which have eventually resulted in longer waiting periods for customers. The Indian automaker plans to shift the Baleno’s production to the Suzuki’s new facility in Gujarat, which will ease off some pressure and increase the production for the Vitara Brezza as well as accommodate the recently launched Ignis.
Under the hood, the Vitara Brezza is powered by 1.3-litre DDIS motor which is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Available only in diesel, the fairly powered engine generates a modest 88bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. The company claims that the compact SUV returns a fuel efficiency figure of 24.3kmpl. Speaking of features, it comes loaded with touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, keyless entry, engine start/stop button and a variety of personalization options. As for safety, it comes with dual airbags and ABS with EBD among others.
