- The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza tested had double airbags, ABS, and ISOFIX anchorages as standard.
- The compact SUV scored four stars in Adult Occupant Protection and two stars for Child Occupant protection.
- The Vitara Brezza is the highest selling UV in the country.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has bagged an impressive four stars in the Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme). The highest selling UV in India has managed to score four stars for Adult Occupant Protection and two stars for Child Occupant protection.
Its Child Occupant protection rating was only two stars due to the forward facing positioning of the 18-month-old dummy in the test. However, when tested for the three-year-old dummy, the Vitara Brezza provided good protection. Moreover, the markings for the ISOFIX anchors were not according to Global NCAP testing protocols.
According to the GNCAP, the Vitara Brezza offered good protection to the driver and passenger's head and neck while the passenger's chest also showed good protection. The bodyshell was rated as stable and capable of withstanding further load.
David Ward, secretary general, Global NCAP, commenting on Vitara Brezza’s performance, said, “The four-star result for Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza is really impressive. It demonstrates clearly the safety engineering capabilities of India’s leading vehicle manufacturer. It also shows the beneficial effects of the Indian Government’s new crash test standards helping to raise levels of vehicle safety”.
The Vitara Brezza is one of the models in the Maruti Suzuki’s line-up that is compliant with India’s latest crash test norms. According to these new norms, which were initiated in October last year, the vehicles need to have protection against full-frontal impact, off-set-frontal impact and side impact. The other Maruti vehicles that are compliant to this norms are the S-Cross, Ertiga, Baleno, Dzire, Swift, Ignis, Celerio and the updated Ciaz.
