Maruti Suzuki plunged into the compact crossover segment with the introduction of the all-new Vitara Brezza back in March 2016. It also heralded the carmakerĀ“s entry into the SUV segment itself. The Vitara Brezza has, since, proved to be a runaway success for the carmaker and now crossed a new sales milestone of selling more than three lakh units since its launch.
The Vitara Brezza took just 28 months to achieve the three lakh sales benchmark making it the fastest vehicle to do so in the SUV segment. Judging by the figures, the Vitara Brezza was sold at an average of 10,714 units each month since its launch. It has remained amongst the top ten selling cars in India ever since. The carmaker says that the top-spec (Z/Z+) variants account for 56 per cent of the total sales.
Owing to the increased demands, the carmaker had to commence the production of Vitara Brezza at the newly constructed Gujarat facility in 2017. The production was pushed to 10,000 units from the previous target 8,000 units in August last year to meet the growing demands.Ā
The Vitara Brezza bagged the coveted 2017 Indian Car of the Year Award (ICOTY), wrestling away the honours from tough competitors like the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Hyundai Tucson. The Brezza was crowned the winner based on criterions like price, fuel efficiency, styling, comfort, safety, performance, practicality, technical innovation, value for money, and suitability for Indian driving conditions. Maruti Suzuki also introduced the unique iCreate personalisation feature for the Brezza.
This year, Maruti Suzuki updated the Brezza with the addition of AMT transmission. The AGS automatic gearbox is mated to the same 1.3-litre four pot diesel engine producing 88bhp and 200Nm. The compact SUV also has an impressive fuel economy of 24.3kmpl. The update also included a new dual-tone paint scheme and blackened alloy wheels along with chrome grille, ABS and EBD as a standard fitment. Also standard on the refreshed Vitara Brezza are other safety features such as ISOFIX, high-speed warning alert, reverse parking sensors and front seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters.
