- Vitara Brezza and S-Cross likely to get 1.5-litre ‘K15-Series’ petrol hybrid engine
- To be available with a five-speed manual and four-speed torque converter automatic option
- Small diesel engine will not be upgraded to BS-VI
Maruti Suzuki has been upgrading to the BS-VI norms way ahead of the April 2020 deadline. Eight mass-market cars - Baleno, Wagon R (1.2L), Swift, Dzire, Ertiga, XL6, and the recently launched S-Presso are BS-VI compliant. Speaking to the media, Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, stated that the company is likely to introduce a BS-VI compliant petrol variant for the Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross.
Currently limited to a diesel engine, both the cars are expected to get a 1.5-litre ‘K15-Series’ petrol hybrid engine option which produces 104bhp and 138Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and four-speed torque converter automatic option. This same engine currently powers the Ciaz, Ertiga and the recently launched XL6 models.
Maruti Suzuki has also revealed that the smaller diesel engines will not be upgraded to BS-VI, as the cost of conversion from BS-IV to BS-VI in diesel vehicles is extremely high which will ultimately make the smaller diesel vehicles unaffordable for consumers. More details about the petrol variant of the Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross will be known in the days to come.
