The country’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki has witnessed a 5.9 per cent growth in utility vehicle segment with 22,035 units sold in April 2019 as against 20,804 units sold in April 2018. The Ertiga, S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza have been the strong selling cars in the utility vehicle segment. As for export, the company has shipped 9,177 units last month as against 8,008 units exported in the same period last year, thereby posting a growth of 14.6 per cent.
Maruti Suzuki sales have been sluggish in the mini, compact and the mid-size segment with a cumulative drop in sales by 22.9 per cent with 97,701 units sold in April 2019 as against 1,26,744 units sold in the same period in 2018. Going by sales numbers, the growing demand for utility vehicles and SUVs is pretty much evident with the Vitara Brezza and the Ertiga being the two top-selling products for the company in India. Over the last few months, the company had introduced the updated version of the Ignis, Celerio, Baleno, Dzire and the Swift. Although these cars have generated interest among customers, the sales numbers have been sluggish last month as compared to the same period last year.
Moving away from the passenger vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki Supper Carry, the light commercial vehicle has witnessed a strong 50.2 per cent growth in sales with 2,319 units sold in April 2019 as against 1,544 units sold in April 2018.
