Maruti Suzuki will stop importing its premium sedan the Kizashi and is offering an Rs five lakh discount on the car to clear the existing stock. Launched just over 18 months ago, the Kizashi was the Japanese automakers first entry into the D-Segment and is brought to India as a CBU.
However, the Kizashi has failed to generate enthusiasm among buyers due to unavailability of diesel engine and a price tag of over Rs 16.5 lakh with Suzuki badge – at that price point there are other options from brands like Honda, Volkswagen, Toyota and Skoda.
This is MSIL’s second attempt to enter the premium market. It had earlier launched the Grand Vitara, also a CBU, for a slightly higher price but didn’t receive any better response. The company has said that the Kizashi will still be available in India, but only in an order on demand basis.
