Maruti Suzuki will setup a second plant in Gujarat. According to the Economic Times, SMC chairman will be in Gujarat today and tomorrow to meet with government officials and begin the process of setting up the second plant. The twin plants once operational will function the same way MSIL works in Haryana where it currently has five plants spread out across various locations.
The company has said that there is no scope to expand in Haryana and is in the process of acquiring another 500 acres in the villages of Ughroz and Ukarade from farmers privately. This land is in addition to the 700 acres already allotted by the Gujarat government.
Eventually the land surrounding the acquired parcel is expected to become special investment region for auto ancillaries. This leads us also to believe that Indo-Japanese automaker is also likely to setup a diesel engine plant on the land.
The Hansalpur plant is expected to be completed by 2016 and will have an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh units. Maruti Suzuki is expected to begin work on the Rs 4000 crore plant this year.
