Maruti is likely to launch six new cars over the next two years and this range is expected to be in the Rs 6 lakh to Rs 14 lakh range as it feels that many of its customers will want to upgrade to larger vehicles within this period.
According to a report from ET, the company feels that many people who have bought the Swift (currently their largest hatchback) will soon be looking to upgrade to larger cars and it is crucial that they have a presence in those segments at the right time.
The new model range is expected to include most of the cars that made their Indian debut at the 2014 Auto Expo. In the C-segment sedan range the SX4 will soon be replaced by the Ciaz sedan while at the other end of the segment it will introduce a new vehicle called the S-Cross SX4, a rival for the Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport.
The model range is also expected to include two premium hatchbacks of which the first one will slot in above the Swift and rival cars like the i20 and Volkswagen Polo. The second one is expected to be a sporty and niche vehicle which in all probability will be the five-door Swift Sport. On the higher side we expect an MPV that will slot in above the Ertiga and rival the Toyota Innova as well as a production version of the XA-Alpha SUV.
While the Indo-Japanese automakers vehicles are not the most exciting ones in the market, they usually sell well and have the ability to influence market trends, giving us an idea of where the consumers are headed and what will be the next most popular vehicle on sale in each segment.
